Here it was, the night of the Nola Award's and Kerri Gordon struggled with going to receive her award. She had been nominated before and didn't win. What an accomplishment, but it bewildered me, as to why she wouldn't want to go, as we continued the interview, I found out the answers.

"I am going to be 100 percent with you, I struggled with going to get the award", said Kerri.

Kerri felt that she should be further along, and she had been nominated before and didn't win, so she wasn't going. As faith would have it, the holy spirit spoke to her and said, really really, people have voted for you, how arrogant of you not to go. Well, that was all it took to get her going.

The Nola Award Show was due to start at 6:30. Kerri was on her way and she got lost! God was in control, because when she arrived, there was a parking space up front, which allowed her to get in the building faster. As she stepped inside, she heard her name being called for the award, and Kerri looked for a quick way to get to the stage, and she saw a door. Once she entered the door, she was able to step on stage to receive her award. Wow! Talk about faith and the heavens working for you!!

In general, a gift to sing comes with fame, but Kerri said, I don't want fame, I want favor! After what God did for her at the Nola Awards, I would say she has His favor.

Kerri Gordon started singing at 9 years old, and sang her first solo at Grace Baptist Church in Scaramento. She had heard Dillian Richards sing the song, "God Put A Rainbow In Your Window". She practiced the song until she could sing it by memory. Kerri told her uncle she wanted sing the song she had learned. "I sang, and the church fell out", and I became known as the little girl that sang, "God Put A Rainbow In Your Window", Kerri said.

Kerri Gordon went on to sing professionally, and she was able to get a contract at the age of fifteen. At that time, her mom was married to her step-dad, who was in the military. He got orders to go to Japan. Kerri asked her mom to stay with an aunt to sing and keep her contract. Her mom said no. Kerri thought her singing career was over.

The family moved to Japan, and joined a church. The church had a gospel workshop lead by Walter Hawkins, look at God, when one door closes He will open another one. During the workshop, Mr. Hawkins heard Kerri's vibrato voice and said, "you with the vibrato voice, I want you to lead the song" (A choir song).

Kerri was confident, but the song was too high, and Hawkins said, "stop saying can't".

Walter Hawkins and his friend stretched her vocals and taught her to use the diaphragm.

Kerri lived in Japan seven years, where she also married and had children. After a failed marriage, she came back to the states and returned to singing, only this time it was secular music. She was with Larry Productions, which had no focus, no direction and going no where, according to Kerri.

Kerri Gordon had married for a second time, only to find herself in an abusive relationship. She was trying to get back in the studio and her husband got jealous, because the producer and Kerri were talking too much. When she tried to explain that she has to communicate to him about the music and sound etc., he wasn't hearing it, and told her she couldn't go back.

Being equally yoked is so important when God is calling you forward. Someone who can't see or share your vision will hinder or stop you from fulfilling the call.

After around 6 years, she was released from this abusive marriage. Kerri returned back to music and wrote her first song, "No Worries", in 2015. She would go out and minister for God and it wasn't about music.

Kerri was working as a staff recruiter during 2012-2014, when her car broke down, she got laid off, needed help with her special needs daughter and trying to get her teens ready for graduation.

"I was frustrated, and looking out the window, when a bird flew by. God said, look at the birds, how much more will I do for you, oh ye of little faith, no worries", said Kerri.

A friend found a track to put with her song, "No Worries". Kerri got with Antonio Unreal Studios, he set payment arrangements and got the song written and produced. Kerri had a release party at a resturant with no charge, as long as the people ordered food. Next, she posted the song on social media and 1 year later, "I got an email saying I was nominated for an award. I registered with iBaby and people knew of me from singing at churches. God provided what I didn't have and He met my needs", said Kerri.

"God is in control, an anthem of empowerment". ~ Kerri Gordon.
